Who I work with

I work with brands, indie individuals, big name broadcasters, and publishers

Brands

Brands like Audi, LinkedIn, Salesforce, Business Leader, and WHSmith

You probably know what your brand looks like, but what does your brand sound like? You wouldn’t dream of not being on social media; having a podcast feed is another way to reach your audience, and this medium is even more interactive, engaging, and human.

Podcasts work best when they’re super niche. We’re not trying to find the world, his wife, and a random kitchen sink for the sake of it, we’re trying to reach the people who are aligned with what you’re about so we can build a real community of likeminded listeners.

So, I’ll immerse myself in your sector, learn your brand voice, and translate your company values into an epic series that ultimately turns occasional customers into loyal brand devotees.

Indie individuals

People like Graham Ruddick, Sangeeta Pillai, Raj Pander & Pilar Nalwimba, and Hannah Witton

Have you got a story only you can tell? I bet you do. I love platforming voices that wouldn’t necessarily be commissioned on traditional broadcast channels. We’ll dream up a format that really shows off your unique knowledge, I’ll coach you through scripting and delivery, and maybe even stay true to form and help nab you some presenting awards because we’ve worked so hard at honing your craft...

Big name broadcasters

Big name broadcasters like Fearne Cotton, Liz Earle, Myleene Klass, and Richard & Judy

Maybe you’re a talent agent with a big name client who wants to move into podcasting, or a brand who wants a celeb to front your show? After years in national talk radio, I’ve produced every size and shape of personality imaginable (!) and I love figuring out what producer-presenter relationship each person needs to make them come alive on mic.

Most importantly, I love the challenge of encouraging slick broadcasters to open up and give us more of their real, silly, soft, flawed character. Let’s work together to bring your talent’s existing fans and followers over to this new medium.

Publishers

Publishers like Orion, William Collins, Happy Place Books, and Haymarket

Are you obsessed with books? I’m obsessed with books. (So much so that I’m writing one, please send your thoughts, prayers, and crossed fingers). Books and all their words, characters, places, and thought-provoking plots are magical to me, so it’s 10/10 exciting when you – a publisher – task me with bringing your books’ themes to life in audio, through cosy book club chats with authors, or original formats that expand on the core conversation.

How I work

Audio production

Collaboratively

Podcasts are meant to live and breathe and grow. We can figure out who on this new project team is best placed to do which parts of the job! And if something about the episode format isn’t working that’s cool, we’ll change it. A production wants to be an ongoing discussion.

Personally

Not to put too much pressure on you being A Fun Person, but it’s important to me to develop a personal relationship with the people I work with. Especially if we’re working on something that requires vulnerability and trust. I’m the sort of person who’ll sign off emails with kisses and will never say things like ‘circle back’, ‘action’, or ‘synergy’.

Excellently

I won’t take your project on unless I know I have the time and resources to do it justice. I don’t do half-arsed, and I hope you don’t either. It’s working to the best of our ability or it’s nowt.

Flexibly

I charge a day rate but don’t dictate which days or times your days are – I’m here whenever you need me. No question is too small or too silly. No email is too late or too early; you and I can both work when works for us.

Where are we recording?

I’m based in London, but you could be anywhere.

Studio recording

I’ve got great relationships with London studios and know the ones that provide the best snacks will make you sound gorgeous. I’ll be on hand to make you and your guests feel welcome in the space, and in your headphones the whole time as a safety net if you need me once we’re on air.

Remote recording

The upshot of the pandemic is that we (producers) had to learn how to record remotely, and how to kindly ask others (presenters and guests) to please not record in their huge echoey kitchen with all those hard surfaces please if you don’t mind thank you that’s really good of you.

We’ll make sure we’re using the platforms, microphones, and post-production that’ll convince listeners everyone was in the same room.

Location recording

I can come to you! I’m very strong and can carry all my wires and mics to wherever you, your presenters, guests, or stories are. And listen, if we absolutely have to go to New York or the Dolomites to make this sound epic then I guess that’s just what we’re going to have to do.

What can I do for you?

Whatever you need!

I work on a pick ’n’ mix basis – let’s chat about what your audio project most needs from my buffet of skills...  (Or some other muddled metaphor)

Devising a concept

Maybe you know how you want to make people feel. What story you want to tell. What community to build. What conversation to start... but don’t know how to start it. We can work together on an innovative format that hits your messaging and entertains listeners in equal measure.

We’ll do some Very Official Things like analyse where you want your show to sit within the industry, and what that means for episode length, frequency, structure, host, and tone of voice (have a little look at my consultation options for more of this kind of stuff!)

Pre-production research

I will become a nerd about your world. I only work on projects I genuinely give a shit about. I’ll be as passionate about the difference you’re trying to make in the world as you are. I’ll probably also research and read a load of niche journals that you didn’t even know existed.

Scripting

I’m also a writer (hi!). I’ll get to know your brand or personal voice and pick the perfect words to tell your story to the people you’re trying to reach. It’s my job to structure a presenter’s interview questions and write voice over scripts in a way that sounds in no way structured or scripted.

Recording

We can record in studio, on location, or remotely. We will have done a lot of pre-production prep (see above) so we’ll be on really solid ground by the time we come to record. My live radio background means I can play as much of a performance director role as you need, or I can just let you do your thing while I slide faders around on the sound desk to make you sound delicious.

Editing

I bloody love a soundwave. There are two parts to editing: content, and listener experience.

As a storyteller I’ll edit your narrative in a way that keeps listeners hooked and spotlights the conversational gems. As a sound geek I’ll meticulously craft your audio so the pauses are the perfect lengths, the breaths are natural, and ums and errs disappear so we’re not wasting a second of a listener’s precious time.

If I’ve done my job right, you won’t realise it’s edited at all.

Sound design + mixing

Often, the spoken words are just the beginning of the story. We can paint an even more vivid picture with clever use of evocative music, archive audio, and sound effects.

Consultation - podcast creation

Happy to ultimately produce your podcast in house but want help getting it off the ground? That’s cool! Over a series of meetings I can set you up with knowledge of the industry and competition, work on a clever format, talk you through best practice for recording and editing, create episode scripting and edit templates, and advise on hosting platforms and promotional tools.

Send me an email – we can chat about a bespoke consultation session.

Consultation - podcast presenter training

I’ve been a presenter! (Whisper it, an award winning one actually). I’ve worked with some of the biggest broadcasters in the country (hey Fearne Cotton, Nick Ferrari, Richard & Judy, James O’Brien et al!) I’ve nurtured brand new voices into award-winning legends.

I’ve worked in both traditional radio and the newer podcast landscape and they require surprisingly different skills. Think of podcast presenter training as media training that’ll ultimately make you sound not media trained. Because media trained doesn’t land well in podcasting.

This is training that’ll give you permission to more confidently be you. You’ve probably got a wicked personality. Let’s get it out of you!

Let’s chat

Working with me in audio, the only obstacle you might stumble upon is struggling to pronounce my name for the end credits*. But if that’s the only negative you come away with, I would suggest that’s a relatively good day at the office, so if you fancy a chat about a production, writing, or speaking project drop me a message.

*seriously, a number of my presenters have struggled to get their tongues around 'the producer, Anouszka', all independently coming out with 'The Produshka'...
