Writing and speaking

Conversations I like to have

I completely adore getting stuck into other people’s stories and crafting them in audio, but I also have my own thoughts and opinions about the below sometimes (quite a lot of the time)...

Sex and relationships, mental health, physical health and fitness, culture, society, travel, the audio industry (!) etc etc.

Let’s start conversations that will leave audiences and readers feeling more supported, less alone, empowered by knowledge, and with more permission to be themselves.

Writing

I have a degree in the history of sex, sexuality, and gender, so I write a lot about identity, relationships, mental health, and questioning cultural norms, sugar coating sometimes difficult-to-swallow reality pills with trademark dry wit. I love writing pieces that straddle the line between punchy and thought-provoking (fun for me when I’m writing), and compassionate and caring (good for society when you’re reading).

I’ve also been sent all over the place as a travel writer, and as delightful as it is being plied with Prosecco and exploring hidden corners of a foreign city, the real joy for me is exploring the colourful language I can use to make readers feel they were there with me once I’m back at my desk.

Speaking

I’m obsessed with people who are obsessed with their area of expertise, so it’s always a real privilege to be on a stage throwing thoughtful ideas around with academics, storytellers, and thought-leaders.

With my background knowledge of sex education, and predilection to over-analyse and over-share my own life, I’ve spoken on panels about everything from mental health at Cheltenham Science Festival, to penises at London Met University, and sex toys at cabaret bar The Box.

I also chat about making brilliant audio at places like The Podcast Show (sorry, it’s all getting a bit meta).

I’m a journalist, and award-winning presenter too, so am equally happy to anchor your event as a host!

If you’re looking for someone to wax lyrical about sexuality or audio (a classic combo), get in touch.

As seen in...

  • It’s hardly surprising that sex is a popular subject, but where sex pods were once poorly made, often gratuitously salacious and had no discernible raison d’être, more recently we have seen a wave of shows that artfully explore what we get up to in bed. Welcome, then, Project Pleasure, a magazine-style show hosted by the radio and podcast producers Anouszka Tate and Frankie Wells that examines themes around sex and relationships that probably weren’t covered at school. It’s with a mix of candour and humour that our hosts discuss their own experiences.

Fiona Sturges – Financial Times podcast reviewer – Project Pleasure

  • Anouszka’s work on Project Pleasure smashes those rather British taboos surrounding sex, relationships and intimacy. She is currently making some of the most important and timely audio I’ve heard in ages and she makes it so blooming well.

Nicole Logan – Transmission Roundhouse station manager – Project Pleasure

  • Anouszka is a pleasure to work with; she demonstrates flexibility, commitment and dedication. She is abundantly able to work independently and she exceeds expectations each and every time. Not to mention she's one of the best writers I have worked with.

Josefin Johansson -Your Coffee Break fashion editor

  • Anouszka sets a high standard in the world of journalism, both in terms of her eloquent and apt writing style, as well as her witty and distinct presenting style. When reading her work, the words spring off the page, while her voice carries flare when behind a microphone. Anouszka is able to engage with any topic, while always staying true to the Tate-angle, putting her own spin on the issue.

Aliena Haig – Summit Radio programme controller

  • Anouszka is the perfect producer: pro-active, passionate about our show, and with great attention to detail. I’m always immensely impressed by her good humour and unflappability in our fast moving world of live radio, and value her advice and skills. Plus she’s great company.

Lucy Beresford – LBC sex and relationships show presenter

  • Anouszka is an absolute pleasure to work with. She’s super organised, efficient, professional, encouraging, flexible and most importantly helped us to create a brilliant podcast with incredible reviews.

Nik and Eva Speakman – Presenters – Making The Change

  • It is no exaggeration to say that Anouszka is the best producer I’ve ever worked with. Meticulous on the detail, hard-working, creative and thoughtful, she brought a full set of skills to the table on our podcast projects at Orion. She is brilliantly collaborative but equally happy to be left to get on with projects and take control. I trusted her implicitly on everything we did and without doubt the success of our projects was in large part thanks to her creative input and brilliant skill working with talent. She lives and breathes podcasts and understands the market and the medium inside out. She is simply an absolute joy and I can’t wait to work with her on something again.

Alice Lloyd – Original audio and podcasts at Orion – Making The Change / Giles Yeo Chews The Fat

  • Right from the start, Anouszka just 'got it' and made the whole process an absolute joy. She comes with a huge wealth of podcasting, journalistic and technical experience and has a brilliant ability to listen to what you want to achieve and take you through the whole process, step by step. Anouszka was able to pull everything together seamlessly, with incredible attention to detail, on time and to budget. If that wasn't enough, Anouszka is an absolute pleasure to work with - a kind, sensitive and authentic human who holds your hand all the way through and makes the whole experience less daunting and more rewarding.

Philippa Esson – London’s Air Ambulance marketing manager – Picking Up The Pieces

  • Anouszka makes delivering smart and engaging audio look easy (it isn't!). She's organised, efficient, detail-oriented, and has a natural talent for understanding the DNA of a brand which she then fiercely protects. She's a joy to work with.

Ellie Smith – The Liz Earle Wellbeing Magazine editor

  • Anouszka is brilliant. She’s technically adept and creatively savvy. Super-efficient organising recording sessions, lovely with podcast guests and all-in-all a joy to work with. In fact, if you asked me to think of a bad thing to say I’d be completely stumped – and I’m not often lost for words. She should know: she’s a dab hand at editing too.

Graeme Hall – Presenter – Talking Dogs with Graeme Hall

  • From first working with Anouszka in a boardroom with clients from the City, to now regularly working with her on Fearne Cotton's Happy Place, I've been consistently amazed by Anouszka's ability to produce. She possesses a rare combination of high IQ as well as EQ, allowing her to understand a wide range of topics whilst being able to connect with anyone. On top of that, she is great fun to be with in a studio!

Basil Oxtoby - Studio sound engineer

  • Anouszka is a dream producer, she really listens and totally understands even the most niche audience for a podcast. She gets to the most important bits of a podcast: the stories, the heart, the narrative that you can feel in your gut. Anouszka goes above and beyond her role as a producer, and is always open to exploring thematic and emotional angles in your audio. My favourite bit about working with Anouszka is how she is so intuitively (it’s beautiful to experience!) helps you weave a compelling podcast and connect with your audience.

Sangeeta Pillai – Creator and presenter – Masala Podcast

  • Working with Anouszka has been a joy; she is so lovely and sweet, as well as creative and utterly efficient. Thanks for the memories. It’s been the most enormous pleasure.

Richard and Judy – The Richard and Judy Book Club presenters

Let’s chat

Working with me in audio, the only obstacle you might stumble upon is struggling to pronounce my name for the end credits*. But if that’s the only negative you come away with, I would suggest that’s a relatively good day at the office, so if you fancy a chat about a production, writing, or speaking project drop me a message.

*seriously, a number of my presenters have struggled to get their tongues around 'the producer, Anouszka', all independently coming out with 'The Produshka'...
